Journalists play an important role as to delivering information news
and articles through media, for a mass of people on a daily basis.Hence social
media acts as an interaction of people through networking as well as
communication but not necessarily issues that generalize on our everyday news
worthy stories that impacts us all.in this age it is seen that journalists have
lost exclusive control of succession information, they are no longer the
courier.Journalists may seem not to sway the message anymore now that social
media in this age is taking over. News are cast into global village through Facebook or twitter and people love being part of novelty game.Young people have
become more important and effective. They have become the decision makers,
giving out information freely on networks where everyone can be able to share
their thoughts and discuss.Social media has an advantage on attracting more
people making it useful.![]() |

It is essential to begin by understanding various social
media sites as peoples understanding is not the same and the ways they can
enhance the work journalist do. I feel as if social media is a temporary thing,
therefore I think there is still a need for journalism. I mean it is also a
challenge to people in rural areas who are not familiar with social networks
and it is also a challenge for old people, if we rely on social media as our
sources. Journalism intakes research, information, current updates as well as
reports that are conveniently brought to us through electronic & print
media which are to large number of people, this accommodates all young people
and old age group unlike social media which accommodates only young people. So
if we rely on social media what will happen to those old people who just sit
and listen to radio the whole day? think again,we still need journalists in this era of
social media to accommodate everyone.

i agree with you kamogelo we still need journalists to give us news, even thought there are social networks where we can access news so easily but we have to come up and think about our grannies who are not social networks or the other people who are not on this sites because of their disadvantaged background, so I think we still need journalist to give us news
ReplyDeleteDefinitely Mr Ndhukwani disadvantaged people need to be taken into consideration because it is important for them also to know about the news
DeleteI'm afraid I have to disagree with you, I honestly think that traditional media does no longer have power over social media because people who are living in 21st century are no longer relying on journalist for news. Most of people are no longer consumers of news, because they use different channels of social media to share news.
ReplyDeleteYes traditional media might not have power over social media yes but my argument is that we still need traditional media in this age to accommodate everyone
DeleteI also disagree with you Mr. Donald, social media is now taking over, with the help of the improving and advanced technology today people rely on social networks for news. but it can also be controversial because the facts that you stated are also valid.
ReplyDeleteYes I mean I feel like social media information can be incomplete they just giving out few point about a certain issue while traditional media give us more information about a certain issue like for an examples journalists can be interviewed on a radio for more details.
DeleteI totally agree with you, journalism has become better and better through social media. Social media has rather been the platform for journalism to be seen.
ReplyDeleteyes we see journalist through our social media
DeleteSocial Media is the way to go, traditional media no longer has a high impact on target audiences... I am a firm believer in change and new technology.
ReplyDeleteso what will happen to our old age people?i mean social media focuses a lot on us young people
DeleteI totally agree with you when you say traditional media is still essential however whom are we likely to believe between prosumers who happen to be our friends, family members or the journalist who are desperate for stories?
ReplyDeletewould say journalists,as they do have more detail information than our friends or our family members
Deletematsietsa it is funny how people ignore psychological reactions it is true news are better if your source is able to give you a follow ups
ReplyDeleteThe question is where do they get information those sources?
DeleteYes its true, Traditional media is still needed even though many young people have fallen for social media. Traditional media has the power to reach a wide variety of audience around the globe as compared to social media that only reaches a specific number of audience.
ReplyDeleteExactly i mean what about those people in rural areas who knows nothing about twitter?at least traditional media can reach those audience
DeleteAt this particular stage I think social media is the way forward. Journalists should now try and adapt to social media because I think five years from now traditional media will be irrelevant to use. Technology changes rapidly these days.
ReplyDeleteso if we rely on social media for news, where will we get follow up stories and detailed information about what is happening around us?
Deleteold age people do still read newspapers unfortunately for us young people we are lazy to read so for us to go and buy newspaper and read it its such a drag because of our laziness
ReplyDeletesocial media really helps in so many different levels as It focuses on spreading the word by using publics to help to promote, the idea of the social media is to put out information in order to spread the word throughout in a faster way than traditional approaches can. people use this to get news in a creative and exciting manner.
ReplyDeleteI disagree with this social media has more power on traditional media where it is seen that traditional media is fading away and social media is taking over.
